The flavor or concept behind Champions of Kamigawa’s Aura of Dominion is that the spell makes others respect the authority of the enchanted creature. As you can see in the card’s art below, a human cleric is bowing to a soratami aristocrat. The card’s rules text allows you to make other creatures literally "bow" to the one with the Aura (or in game terms, to tap them as part of the cost of the Aura’s ability).
